No soak fruit and nut Christmas cake

'Christmassy' is one of my favourite feelings (up there with pre-holiday excitement and when you're just the right amount of hungover to justify eating anything you want all day without it making you feel worse). I roll my eyes with everyone else when supermarkets start displaying their Christmas stock way back in September, but I'm secretly glad we get to start feeling Christmassy earlier and earlier each year.

That's why I always make a Christmas cake. They need to be made a month or so in advance to give the flavours time to intensify, which means I have a legitimate excuse to start getting into the Christmas spirit in early November without anyone rolling their eyes at me.

Scuba diving in Kota Kinabalu

Ready for another exceedingly long Borneo post? I promise it's not as long as the last one, and it's got a sea turtle in it!

After leaving the jungle we flew to Kota Kinabalu, to go diving in the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.

Peckham Burger

To give you all a break from being jealous of my holiday, I thought I'd shake things up a bit with a London-based post.

I love Southeast Asian food and we had some incredible local dishes while we were away, but one thing I was really looking forward to having when I got home was a big ol' juicy burger.

Sungai Kinabatangan

So at the end of my last post we were sheltering from the relentless heat in the oasis that was the Rainforest Discovery Centre Exhibition Hall, from where we were picked up and driven a couple of hours deeper into the jungle, to a camp on the banks of the Kinabatangan river.

Monkeys in Sepilok

Stop worrying everyone, I'm back! Tom and I just spent a couple of incredible weeks in Borneo, staying in the rainforest, relaxing on a paradise island and eating a lot of noodles.

Our first stop was a little town called Sepilok, to see orangutans...
